Document a PCI Procedure with CARAT

See how easy it is to document a PCI procedure using CARAT. A complex LAD bifurcation stent procedure (Culotte technique) is used to illustrate the CARAT documentation process.

Initial Setup

In this example, the patient’s coronary anatomy and stenoses were captured using CARAT’s guided workflow as a starting point. The patient has 3 lesions in the proximal left anterior descending artery and 1 lesion in the mid left circumflex artery.

Step 1

Use the Stent editing mode to add the first stent from the proximal LAD into the proximal diagonal.

Step 2

Use the Interventional Detail menu to document pre-dilation of the proximal LAD and proximal diagonal lesions by adding a Balloon as a device type.

For this procedure, 3 devices are added in total: a pre-dilation balloon, a stent, and a post-dilation balloon. Each device is associated with its own parameters, shown in the final report.

Step 3

The second stent is then drawn from a point close to the heel of the previous stent, but now extending past the second LAD lesion, and the Interventional Details are added.

Step 4

To document the approach used, the Strategies tab is used to select ‘Culotte’ with Kissing Balloon technique.

Step 5

The Lesion editing mode is used to document a balloon angioplasty in the LCx lesion.

Step 6

Procedure details are entered for the balloon angioplasty in Device Details. All of the data entered for the procedure are tabulated in the Stent and Balloon Tables and the comments section of the report.

If a patient returns for another procedure in the future, this CARAT diagram can be used as a starting point.
